Barnett Government axes local school crossings
Date: 07 September 2011
Member for Nollamara Janine Freeman yesterday joined parents and children calling on the Barnett Government to reverse its decision to close a school crossing on Flinders Street in Nollamara.
"The Barnett Government‟s decision will directly endanger the lives of school children who use this crossings on a daily basis. Janine said.
"This decision cannot be solely based on the ratio of school children using the crossings versus the amount of traffic on the roads.
"It must also consider other risk factors and it is unacceptable to allow young children to cross these roads unattended during peak-hour traffic."
"Yesterday Year 6 students from Our Lady of Lourdes came to Parliament to watch their petition being submitted. The parents and students have got behind this campaign and it's time the Barnett Government made children's safety a priority and reversed its decision to close these crossings."
