About Janine Freeman:

Ms Freeman is currently the Independent Chair of Fair Food WA and a Board Director at the Water Corporation, Government Employees Superannuation Board and AnglicareWA.

Janine Freeman served the Mirrabooka community as their State MP from September 2008 to March 2021.  During which she was an acting Speaker and sat on various committees, including as Chair of the Education and Health Standing Committee from 2017 to 2021, presenting various enquiry reports to WA Parliament.

Janine has a BEc, a Grad Dip from the Curtin School of Public Health, a Cert IV Financial Services and is a graduate from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Ms Freeman has represented working people throughout her career, having been a senior elected union official; sat on various not for profit boards, a board member on WorkCover and WorkSafe and Deputy Chair of the industry super fund, HESTA.

Janine is a social equity advocate. She is committed to creating opportunities for people, to create inclusive communities and foster a commitment to everyone’s wellbeing. Her commitment enabled her to lead Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre as their acting CEO during a time of change in 2023.

Having represented the most multicultural electorate in Western Australia, Janine was privileged to work, socialise and advocate for Australians from diverse, ethnic, faith, language and cultural backgrounds. She was honoured to have been a part of establishing Kaleidoscope mentoring initiative and the WA Government’s Multicultural Framework.

Janine is a committed feminist, volunteering with EMILY’s List Australia to support women into politics.

Janine was born and raised in Perth and attended Scarborough Senior High School, where her parents were active members of the parent association, instilling in her a commitment to community involvement.
